Snow Route Parking Ban

The Snow Route parking ban program supports snow plowing operations by removing vehicles from the streets, allowing crews to clear snow from Calgary roads more efficiently and effectively. Parking will be temporarily restricted on designated “Snow Routes” for 72 hours following a declaration of a Snow Event by The City. Snow Events will be declared when five centimetres or more of snow has accumulated on city streets. Read more: Snow Route Parking Ban

Snow Route Parking Bans

This winter Calgary will implement Snow Route parking bans for the first time in our City’s history. Snow Route parking bans are temporary parking restrictions on designated routes that will be in effect for up to 72 hours following snow falls of 2 inches/5 centimetres or more. The City will declare a “snow event” in order to clear Priority 1 and 2 roadways.

These streets are now signed with small street signs depicting a white snowflake on a blue background, but only at the beginning of each designated street. Watch for these signs in your community.

You can sign up on the City’s website at www.calgary.ca for automatic email alerts to determine when an official snow event is declared or when one is lifted in The City of Calgary.  Read more: Snow Route Parking Bans

Devonian Gardens Construction Update

The Devonian Gardens redevelopment is a $37 million project of a key downtown attraction for both Calgarians and tourists.  The redevelopment of the popular 34-year-old facility was badly needed as it had not undergone any significant renovations or infrastructure upgrades since opening in 1977.  While reopening was anticipated to be late fall 2011, it is now expected to reopen in summer 2012.  Minor construction delays have resulted in a lost window of opportunity to safely bring in tropical plants to the new Gardens.  Delivery of the plants will occur as soon as weather conditions permit in spring 2012.
