Spruce Cliff

Spruce Cliff is located in Calgary’s southwest. Though the area was annexed in 1910, it was not developed until the 1950s. Because Spruce Cliff is located in an escarpment, views of the Bow River Valley and the city are available from some areas. The community is close to the Douglas Fir Trail hiking path, as well as the city’s pathway system. The area houses the Spruce Cliff shopping centre, and the Wildflower arts centre. The Shaganappi golf course is also nearby. There is a public school in the area. Spruce Cliff provides residents with easy access to downtown via Bow Trail.

The community centre is home to many renters, including the Bowcliff seniors groups, who gather for cards and crafts, a lapidary club and a dowser’s society. The community recently conducted a feasibility study to determine what programs the community association fould offer that would appeal to residents. There are tennis courts adjacent to the community centre, as well as an open field where sports such as soccer are played with teams from nearby Wildwood. The community association hosts an annual Stampede Breakfast, and the popular Greek festival is also held in the area.
